Chilca does not collect, transmit or sell any personal data. There is no account, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising software development kit and no network call of the app's own. Chilca has no server of its own, so nothing you do inside the app — the beds you draw, the species you save, the visits you log — is ever sent anywhere.
What stays on your device
Everything Chilca keeps is stored locally on your iPhone or iPad, using Apple's on-device storage frameworks. This includes:
- The beds (canteros) you draw, and the natives you plant in each one
- Your visit log: the butterflies, hummingbirds and other visitors you record, with an optional photo and note
- Favourited species and fridge-stratification batches you start for sowing
- App settings such as your region, haptics, sound and reminder preferences
None of this leaves your device unless you deliberately share it yourself, for example using the Share button to send a season tally image or a wishlist through Messages, Mail or another app you choose. That sharing action uses Apple's standard share sheet and is entirely under your control. Settings also lets you export your garden data as a file, or erase it completely, at any time.
Camera
Chilca asks for camera access only at the moment you tap the camera option while logging a visit, so you can photograph the butterfly, hummingbird or other visitor at your bed. The photo is saved only inside that log entry, on your device. Chilca never opens the camera on its own and never uploads a photo anywhere. On devices without a camera, such as the iOS Simulator, Chilca offers your photo library instead.
Photo library
When you choose a photo for a visit instead of taking one, Chilca uses Apple's built-in photo picker. This system picker runs outside the app and hands over only the single image you select — Chilca never receives access to browse or scan your library. If you save a shared image back to your library, that also uses Apple's standard, permissioned save flow.
Notifications
Chilca schedules local notifications only for reminders you switch on yourself: a sowing-window alert for a species, a reminder that a fridge-stratification batch is ready to sow, or a monthly note to check your garden tasks. These notifications are generated and delivered entirely on your device. Chilca does not use push notifications and no notification content is ever sent to a remote server.
In-app web pages
The Aprender tab links to a small number of public native-plant and butterfly reference sites, opened inside the app rather than in Safari. Visiting one of these pages is subject to that site's own privacy policy, which Chilca has no control over. Chilca itself does not track which pages you open.
Contact form
If you write to us through the contact form on the support page, we receive only the name and message you choose to type there, so we can reply to your report or question. That message is not linked to anything you do inside the app.
Children's privacy
Chilca is a general-audience gardening utility and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information from anyone at all.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the update will be posted on this page along with a revised date. Continuing to use Chilca after a change means you accept the revised policy.
